The Vagina Monologues & TheirStories

Campus Resources

The Vagina Monologues were first created by Eve Ensler in 1996. Eve interviewed hundreds of different womxn about their vaginas, and their responses were used to create the original show. These monologues dealt with aspects of womxnhood, many of which were taboo at the time. However, the show is exclusionary to a vast number of individuals.

So, in 2017, the directors at UCSD created HerStories; these new monologues were written by students, and were designed to showcase more intersectional voices at the show. It was a good, and necessary, addition to the show.

Now in 2018, the UCSD directors have adapted HerStories into TheirStories, in a more concerted effort to broadcast the voices and identities that The Vagina Monologues have not traditionally represented, or have misrepresented in the past.

The intent of The Vagina Monologues & TheirStories is to educate, empower, and display the voices of diverse, intersectional identities. All proceeds go to two local charities: Break the Silence Against Domestic Violence, and License to Freedom.
